Training Day 11: REST

114 days left

...and today I NEED to rest. I had the hardest time waking up today. Not quite my usual self. So I decided that I needed to recover and rest. I altered my training so starting next week I'm going to TRAIN SMART & EAT SMART too. I can't forget that now I'm eating for fuel.

Happy REST day to those runners/athletes taking a break!

Training Day 9: 30-min Cross Train (Swimming)

I did some strength training today and shortly after I decided to run a mile. To keep me going, I downloaded a new audiobook from audible.com. It took me 14:47 minutes this time which made me quite happy. The only thing is that when it came time to my cross training (I chose swimming), I started to feel a bit...claustrophobic (if that makes sense). But since I was really determined to complete my 30-minute session, I decided to take it slow, mind my breathing, and work on my form. My mind also started to wander a bit. It's always when I'm in water that I think about family, friends, the beach. Perhaps good things, good events, vacations, that have transpired around water. I realized that maybe I pushed myself too much today. I was also getting very hungry but luckily, I prepared my protein shake and a granola bar.

For lunch, I decided to make a wonderful garden salad (at least, I like to call it so):

Romaine lettuce, capers, tomatoes (fresh from the garden), cucumber, italian seasoning, and some ready-made dressing (because I was too lazy to make my own vinaigrette). I also toasted some focaccia bread and drizzled some virgin olive oil.

I'm really tired now. Nap time.

Training Day 7: Rest

After going grocery shopping at Trader Joe's I went to bed quite early last night (at 8pm to be exact). I was happy to be tired enough to actually sleep at a fairly decent hour. But around 1am, I woke up and could not go back to bed. So I decided to cook for the rest of the week and here's what I made:

Trader Joe's has a wonderful tomato basil marinara sauce. What I did though was I sauteed some garlic then cooked the ground turkey in with that before adding the marinara sauce.

Next up: is Pesto Linguine with broccoli and pine nuts. This is my first time using linguine noodles for this particular dish. Normally, I use spaghetti noodles which now that I think about it, rather prefer. I may have over cooked the linguine causing it to be quite starchy--quite upsetting really.

So these are my meals for the week, and lots of salad and other delightful food I will most likely share with you.

Have a great Sunday! Though it's my "rest day" I'm definitely going for a hike.

Hike Update:

What a wonderful day! Here are some photos I'd like to share with you:

It was a rather lazy day and after a wonderful dinner: Summer produce fresh from the garden: tomatoes, grilled zucchini, grilled eggplant, potatoes with basil, as well as BBQ chicken marinated in Trader Joe's pineapple, teriyaki marinade, and of course the pesto linguine I made earlier it couldn't have more delightful!

For dessert, I indulged a little:

Apple cinnamon cake and chocolate bunt cake. But I don't feel guilty. I biked a little, swam a little, and hiked as well. The great outdoors was my buddy today and I had a lot of fun.

Now for the big-time training tomorrow! Here we go!
