7:44 AM TEXT MESSAGE ALERT!
"On miiii wayyyy. Woooop!" the message read.
I was thankful for a good night's sleep and having prepared everything I needed ahead of time. I got dressed applied sunblock, ate half of a granola bar, and downed 2 glasses of water and a powerade which kept me hydrated throughout the run.
We started out by walking over to the Riverbend park. I decided this is where we would start our 7-mile journey. Once we got to a park bench we stretched (although, I should have stretched more) and headed out on the trail. It was hilly which was such a change since I have been training on the treadmill for two weeks! So we "charged those hills" and conquered. I will admit though that it was physically demanding and the beating sun didn't help either so we walked for the most part after the trail running only when we had cross streets. Nevertheless, we were determined to complete 7 miles today and we did, exhausted and freshly sun-kissed, we finished a 7-mile run/walk and we did very well!
Plans for next week includes:
•More hill charges (during sprint running days)
•A better route for our long run
I was disappointed to realize that there wasn't much shoulder room going up Orange Street from Montgomery. I suppose that goes to show that it's not quite the ideal place to be running or even biking.
I love having someone to run with! It's actually really fun! Your forget about time and miles whereas on the treadmill that's all you think about.
We ended up the day meeting up with friends and buying goodies at the farmer's market. Today was good and next week will be better! I'll be stronger then!
RUNNING STRONG,
RunnerKE
