Today I ran a 5K.
And although I apparently signed up for the 5k WALK instead of the 5k RUN[see e-mail below],
I still RAN the 5k. Granted, I walked after those hill charges, I must say that I feel very proud of myself and I feel extremely motivated for the races to come. Today was an amazing day. Races are so empowering and not to mention, exciting as heck! Here's the breakdown:
7:00 AM (two+ hours before the race) ~ Drank 2 glasses of water, ate a banana
7:30 AM ~ Showered
7:45 AM ~ Warm up (ran once around the block)
8:00 AM~ Stretched
8:20 AM~ Headed over to the Riverbend Park
8:35 AM~ Race check in/packet, bib, shirt pick-up
9:00 AM~ Drank more water
9:15 AM~ RACE BEGAN
MILE 0.5~ Adrenaline was pumping, feeling good, no knee pain (thank goodness for my warm up and stretch)
MILE 1.0~ Just did the first hill charge which raised my heart rate quite a bit but follwed up by going at my usual jogger-running-pace; conserving my energy on this rather warm morning but hanging in there.
MILE 1.5~ Just did another couple hill charges. It's not easy at this particular spot (I've trained here before). Feeling a bit tired now. Decided to walk it out. Runners passing and merging. Not intimidated in fact I was so happy for many of them including myself. KEEP ON PUSHING!
MILE 2.0~ There was water provided at the turn-a-bout which helped so much! I'm walking-jogging now at this point.
MILE 2.5~ Sprints and hill charges now. My sister (who also ran the 5k) was my motivator and I hers. Trying to play catch up and "pass people". No more dilly-dally. Race pace now
MILE 3.0~ Felt tired but hung in there. RACE PACE, RACE PACE, RACE PACE
FINISH LINE~ DONE! AND DONE! TIME: 46:40:06
AMAZING. =)
